Conversations Creating Space: Psychology, Psychotherapy and Mindfulness

Consultation & Training

Along with offering psychology, psychotherapy, and supervision in Kingston upon Thames and online, I also consult and train health and social care professionals across a wide range of settings and client groups. I have been actively involved in the training of Clinical Psychologists and Systemic Psychotherapists over many years. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Association (HEA) and have published on systemic therapy and training.

I am informed by an active appreciative stance, seeking to resist oppression and injustice, stemming from four decades of working in the NHS and independent practice. I have held a number of leadership and management positions with the NHS. Formerly I was Co-Director of KCC, a systemic training and therapy organisation and Trust Head of Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, where I continue to experience supporting clients and staff as a clinician and trainer. My doctorate (PhD) research focussed on organisational change in hospitals, exploring the effect of staff training and organisational interventions in long-stay hospitals for people with learning disabilities from an ecological and systemic perspective.

My background has led to an ongoing commitment to staff training, and I remain passionate about providing consultation and training that honours the individual and resists dehumanising institutional practices.

Mindfulness for staff working in health, social care and the voluntary sector

Over the past two years of the pandemic staff working in the caring professions have been under unprecedented pressure leading to sickness, stress and burnout. Mindfulness can offer a space to nurture and refresh, bringing kindness and compassion into the process of caring. I am experienced in running a range of mindfulness groups for staff in the workplace.

Consultation and training in person, in your workplace or online

Consultation and training can be provided as single consultations or workshops or as an ongoing service to individuals, work groups, organisations, and communities within the health, social, or voluntary sector. Each intervention will be specifically tailored and adapted to meet the specific needs of each individual, work group or service. I have worked on many different projects over the years – most recently in developing and delivering systemic training to social workers. Some of my publications can be viewed here.
